After the conclusion of the final scrimmage held by LSU football before the season starts on Saturday, Sept. 26 hosting Mississippi State, a pair of Tangi Tigers are turning heads.
Sophomore wide receiver Trey Palmer (Kentwood HMS) and freshman quarterback T.J. Finley (Ponchatoula HS) both turned in strong performances and were acknowledged by Coach Ed Orgeron during his press conference on Zoom on Tuesday.
Orgeron called Palmer a "top performer" during the conference call and shared that he hauled in five catches for 79 yards. Palmer is in the heat of a battle to earn the starting wide receiver spot. His main competitor, Kayshon Boutte, had two receptions last Saturday.
While Myles Brennan is projected to get the start at quarterback, Orgeron said that he was impressed with Finley's performance. Finley completed 7-out-of-14 passes for a total of 121 yards in the air. Also competing for the backup quarterback position is freshman Max Johnson who completed 7-of-13 passes for a total of 83 yards in the air.
LSU has a third player from Tangipahoa Parish, former Amite standout Devonta Lee who has been shifted to linebacker this year after playing wide receiver throughout his freshman campaign.
