Ponchatoula Lady Wave softball went 3-1 in their recent series.
The first game was between Ponchatoula and Haynes Academy.
The Lady Wave's starter in the circle Grace Schwaibold only gave up a single run on three hits to propel Ponchatoula to a 6-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
The contest remained close through four innings, but in the bottom of the fifth, freshman Abby Dagro hit her seventh home run of the year to extend the Lady Wave advantage to 4-1.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Wave added their final two runs, taking advantage of a Haynes Academy error to score all the runs needed for the victory.
Schwaibold was 1-3 at the plate and scored one time.
Christina Curtis was 1-4 with one RBI.
Abby Dagro was 2-4 and added two runs, two RBI, and a home run.
Brilynn Chavarria was 2-3 with a single run.
Lanie Polk was 2-3 with one RBI.
The next game was between Ponchatoula and Academy of Our Lady.
The Lady Wave jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the fifth inning before the Lady Penguins added 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 12-8 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning the Lady Wave rallied once again but came up just short, with the game's tying run being stranded at third base, to fall 12-11.
Grace Schwaibold, Sarah Ulloa and Christina Curtis all had two hits apiece in the game to lead the Lady Wave at the plate.
Schwaibold was 2-5 with a single run and RBI.
Curtis had 2-4 with two runs scored.
Abby Dagro was 1-3 with one run and one RBI.
Lanie Polk went 1-3 with one RBI.
Sara Ulloa went 2-4 and added one run and RBI.
Faith Hebert was 1-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Brianna Chavarria went 1-4 and had one run and two RBIs.
Up next, the Lady Wave showed a clear sense of urgency against the Broncos, starting their scoring early in the game in a 11-1 10-run rule victory.
Christina Curtis was unstoppable at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and a walk with two RBI and two runs scored.
Senior Brianna Chavarria also had a tremendous showing going 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.
In the circle, Abby Dagro got the win, holding Zachary to one run on three hits.
Brilynn Singh was 2-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Lanie Polk went 1-3, adding an RBI.
Rae’el Wheat was 1-2 with one run.
Brooke Williams went 1-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In the Ponchatoula match against Riverdale, Grace Schwaibold only gave up one hit, dominating in the circle for the entire four innings of play to lead the Lady Wave to an 18-0 run rule victory over the Lady Rebels.
Ponchatoula scored in every inning of the game: three in the first, four in the second, four in the third and finally scoring seven runs on five hits in the fourth to seal the game.
The Lady Wave bats were led by Christina Curtis who went 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI.
Seniors Brooke Williams and Brianna Chavarria had two hits apiece, while Junior Brilynn Singh continued her hitting streak with two hits on the day as well.
Schwaibold went 1-4 with two runs.
Curtis was a perfect 4-4, adding four runs scored and four RBI.
Abby Dagro was 1-2 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Singh was 2-3, adding a single run and three RBI.
Rae’el Wheat was 2-3 and also contributed a single run and RBI.
Faith Hebert went 1-3 with one run and three RBI.
Sara Ulloa went 1-2, one run.
Brianna Chavarria was 2-2 with three runs and a pair of RBI.
As a team, Ponchatoula was impressive at the plate, racking up 15 hits.
The Lady Wave, now 9-7, will begin district play today when they travel to Covington to face the Lady Lions at 6 p.m.
