The Ponchatoula boys basketball team defeated Mandeville on Tuesday night 78-59 to stay in the top of District 6-5A.

The Green Wave dueled with Mandeville in the first half and took an early 18-13 lead in the first quarter. Getting some offensive help from the bench, Ponchatoula outscored Mandeville 18-10 in the second quarter to go up 31-28 at the half.

The Green Wave turned up their defensive intensity in the second half, capitalizing on getting points off their opponents’ turnovers. They outscored Mandeville 47-31 in the second half to cruise to a final score of 78-59.

Ryan Elzy had 23 points. Rod Banks added 13 points and Jacoby Mathews chipped in 8 points.

The Green Wave are 11-8 overall and 2-0 district.
