On behalf of our entire school system and our community as a whole, I would like to take a moment to offer a mighty THANK YOU to Lil Mirando, the longtime editor of this newspaper.

Lil has been a champion for public education, and during my tenure as superintendent, she has been an invaluable asset in helping us develop and bring awareness to our plan to bring unity to our school system.

Lil has been a consummate professional, never watering down or “dumbing” down the message to her readers. She asked tough questions, and many times, she made us think beyond our comfort zone.

She has left her mark on each of us, and our community is better for it.

They say that if you do something you love, you’ll never “work” a day in your life. To dedicate 40 years to serving our community tells me that Lil Mirando has truly loved this work and loved this community.

Congratulations on this incredible milestone and best wishes to you, Lil, on a well-deserved retirement!

— Melissa M. Stilley, Superintendent of Schools, Tangipahoa Parish School System
