John was born June 15, 1934 in New Orleans, LA to the late John M. Monroe, Sr. and Margaret Tamborella Whann. He passed away April 6, 2021, in Hammond, LA at the age of 86.

He was a member of Calvary Christian Center, a retired truck driver for ABF in Metairie, LA and enjoyed fishing and working in his yard.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Compton Whann; son, John M. Whann, III (Sharon); daughters, Rebecca Majesty, and Vickie Helg (Dennis, Sr.); brother, Robert Whann, Sr.; grandchildren, Tracy, Denny, Melissa, Jesse, Jr., Brandon, Christian and Heath; and twelve great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his mother in law and father in law, Bessie Mae and Francis David Compton, Sr; son in law, Jesse Majesty, Sr.; and sisters, Pearl, Virginia, Alice, Rose, and Kathryn.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Harry McKneely Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, from 11 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Sandhill Cemetery.
