Charles Edward Bennett “Charlie” passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at the age of 73 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Katherine “Kitty” Reno Bennett; his children Desiree Forsyth and husband Scott, Benjamin Bennett and wife Jessica; his grandchildren Claire Bennett, Owen Bennett, and Mackenzie Forsyth, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alice Bennett; brothers Joseph Bennett Jr., Glenn Bennett and wife Gail Stewart Bennett; and sister, Iris Renee Brown.
Charlie was born on June 28, 1948 at his grandparents’ house in Ponchatoula to Alice Harper Bennett and Joseph A. Bennett Sr. He was raised in Robert, Louisiana, and was a resident of Loranger at the time of his death. He attended Champ Cooper in Robert and was a 1966 graduate of Hammond High School.
He loved life in the woods and on the water. He held on to his boat long after he was able to operate one. He was an original and lifelong member of Blue Swamp Hunting Club and an avid Case knife collector. He could often be found at knife shows and antique stores before he became too ill to travel. He was a 3rd degree Master Mason and 21-year member of Livingston Lodge in Hammond. Charlie was a welder by trade who worked and commuted with many close friends over the years. He was a devoted Paw-Paw to his 3 grandchildren who love him and will miss him deeply.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 W Hammond, LA 70401 on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Masks are required please. Burial to follow at Joiner Cemetery in Loranger, where he will be laid to rest next to his parents and siblings.
