Charlene Gomez Travis, age 75, of Hammond, LA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 11, 2020. She was born May 25, 1945 in New Orleans, LA.

She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandma, and aunt. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved her trips to the Great Smoky Mountains. It was her home away from home, especially Cades Cove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Gomez, Sr. and Ouida Stringfield Gomez; brother Raymond Gomez, Jr.; sister-in-law Betty Gomez; niece Joanie Gomez Keller; and brother-in-law, Donald Spring.

She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Ken Travis; son Kevin Ray Travis; daughter Suzonne Travis Phillips; granddaughters Dixie and Michelle Phillips; sister-in-law Evelyn Spring; nieces and nephews, Sandi Gomez Lambert (Billy), Rae Lynne Gomez Duhon (George), Loretta Wilson (Randy), Eugene Tackett (Tammy), Anita Wall (Johnny), and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Following is a quote from her husband: “Charlene Gomez Travis on Sunday morning, October 11, 2020, a very special person went to be with the Lord. She was the love of my life. We met on a blind date on October 3, 1970. We got married on December 31, 1970. The Lord blessed us with 50 years together.”

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W Hammond, LA 70403 on Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Parklawn Cemetery.
