Two shootings in Hammond area; four arrested

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said four Hammond residents were arrested on charges related to shooting at homes and hitting one person Nov. 9 on Klein Road in Hammond.

The wounded person suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a medical facility.

Around this time, a second shooting occurred on East Merry Street in Hammond, authorities said.

No arrests in the East Merry Street shooting have been made, but detectives believe the two shootings are connected.

The investigation revealed that around 2:20 p.m. Nov. 9, several people went to Willow Villa Road just west of Hammond where they were seen on video surveillance getting out of a newer model Dodge Charger.

They walked towards the Klein Road Mobile Park and are believed to have then fired about 15 times toward multiple residences and people, striking one person and one residence.

Responding deputies from the sheriff's office alerted surrounding law enforcement agencies about the incident and suspect vehicle description.

Within moments, Hammond police stopped the suspect vehicle in the area of Range Road and had the occupants detained pending investigation.

They learned the vehicle was reported stolen from New Orleans and possibly contained several firearms.

Detectives located a Glock .45 caliber handgun, a Glock 9mm handgun, and an Anderson Arms AR-15 style rifle as well as illegal narcotics. Also, detectives were able to connect two of the three occupants to the Klien Road shooting, Sheriff Daniel Edwards said.

Call Detective R. Walker at (985) 902-2036 or Crime Stoppers at 800-554-5245 with any information.

Arrested were Charles Pines Jr., 22; Tavion McGary, 19; Tavi Roach, 32; and Romeriez Watkins, 22, all of Hammond.
