A suspected burglar is dead and a Robert-area homeowner is in the hospital after a shooting incident early Friday that involved a Tangipahoa Parish deputy sheriff.
Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident at the request of the sheriff’s office, said Trooper Jeremy Price.
The person who was killed was Jordan D. Patterson, 27, of Pumpkin Center.
As of 5 p.m. Friday, state police had not identified the wounded homeowner. Neither had investigators identified who was shot by whom nor was any other information released.
“The sequence of events and shooting remain part of the ongoing investigation with ballistic analysis pending,” Price said.
Shortly before 6 a.m., the sheriff’s office responded to a 911 call that a burglary was in progress on Coleman Road, which is just east of the Dollar General store on US 190 east of the Robert intersection.
Both the suspected burglar and the homeowner suffered gunshot wounds, Price said.
Patterson died on the scene and the homeowner was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. The responding deputy was not injured, Price said.
The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is processing the incident scene and the investigation is active and ongoing, Price said.
