A former Amite prep recruit is on the move.

Alabama defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher has entered the college football transfer portal, according to Al.com.

Sopsher was a Top 5 national recruit for the class of 2019 but has appeared in only one game as a first-year player and has not seen the field this season as a redshirt freshman.

He won an LHSAA 2A title with the Warriors in 2018 and was recruited by every major program in the nation by his senior season. He chose the Crimson Tide over LSU and Oregon.

In 2016, Sopsher was a member of a Warriors team that finished as LHSAA 3A Runner-Up. Offensively, that team was led by Sopsher’s current Alabama teammate, wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

His brother, Rodney Sopsher, played alongside him on the defensive line during the 2016 season. Rodney Sopsher is on Southeastern Louisiana’s roster and is expected to see playing time when the team resumes play in the spring, along with the rest of the Southland Conference.
