“Two” was the word of the day Saturday as the St. Thomas Aquinas Falcons Varsity and JV soccer teams collected a pair of 2-0 scrimmage wins over visiting Covington High with all the scoring in the second half.
In the Varsity match the Falcons and Lions played to a 0-0 draw in the first half, but just minutes into the second stanza, junior Brayden Leyrer got loose on a run knocking in the game first goal.
The Falcons added another goal moments later as freshman Andrew Allain padded the lead with a 29-yard penalty kick for a goal.
Defense ruled the rest of the way as both teams missed scoring chances.
The JV match followed the same pattern as the Varsity game with both teams unable to connect for a goal in the first half.
Sophomore Brody Doan broke up the scoring drought kicking in a penalty kick for the 1-0 lead.
Later in the period, fellow sophomore Tim Lacoste gave the Falcons some insurance going on an impressive wire-to-wire run to kick in a second Saint Thomas goal.
The Falcons will open their regular season today hosting Lakeshore.
