The Krewe of Omega celebrated its 35th anniversary with its annual Royal Coronation ceremony held at the Historic Michabelle Inn in Hammond.
Revelers masqueraded in medieval costumes and cocktail attire and were masked in observance of pandemic guidelines.
This year’s Coronation theme was “Game of Crowns - A Coronation is Coming.”
All in attendance were surprised when King and Queen Omega XXXV were revealed as the krewe’s own past royalty.
“Past royalty is the new royalty,” said Omega XXXII Queen Jo Troiani. “The krewe will celebrate our thirty-fifth anniversary by honoring our past Kings and Queens. It was a very serendipitous decision in light of this year’s pandemic.” The Krewe of Omega is planning to parade through the streets of Hammond on Feb. 5, 2021.
In its 35-year history, only one Omega parade has not rolled, Omega XXV. When the 2021 parade rolls, Omega XXV King and Queen David and Sandra Bradley will ride on the royal king and queen’s float, fulfilling their reign, cut short by rain in 2011.
