No. 31 Gabi Hogge fights for the Lady Wave. She had 20 kills, 6 aces, 12 digs and 11 blocks in the last three matches.

The Ponchatoula Lady Wave volleyball team turned in a record of 1-2 in their last three matches, and coach Lauren Long said the team has to improve from mental errors.

“I am very proud of how our players never gave up,” Long said. “However, in both matches, we hurt ourselves with missed serves and committed mental mistakes.

“Unfortunately, you cannot be successful against extremely good teams if you shoot yourself in the foot with mental breakdowns,” she said. “This is something we will continue to work on. We are a young team, and these are growing pains and they will pass because I believe in this group of young ladies.”

The Lady Wave beat Covington last Thursday 3-0 and then suffered two match losses to district opponents.

Ponchatoula is 10-6 overall and 4-5 in District 6-5A.

Long said the team had a challenging week in district play, facing 2 top 10 teams in the state starting with No. 10 Northshore on Tuesday and No. 3 Mandeville on Thursday.
