Hammond Downtown Development District has announced the return of Hot August Night to Downtown Hammond. This year’s event will take place Friday, Aug. 26, from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

After two years of canceled events and the recent Great American Main Street Award win, the DDD is gearing up for the event’s 25th Anniversary with lots in store, a statement from the DDD said.

Hot August Night is an annual downtown Hammond event and a family-friendly and free-to-attend celebration in the heart of the downtown district. Musicians, local artists and small businesses provide entertainment for all ages.

Uptown Phunk, a New Orleans, high energy dance band, will be the headliner at this year’s event. This 11-piece ensemble is known for lively performances with a full horn section and male and female leader singers who perform covers and original songs.

This year’s event will also feature community favorites like the LionPawLooza parade, pep rally and autograph session with Southeastern Louisiana University student athletes, the wine walk and a car show.

The Hot August Night Wine Walk gives community members a chance to visit local businesses while sampling an array of wine selections. Businesses that sign up to participate will be designated as official wine walk stops. Applications are available online.

Tickets will be available for presale for $35 each. Wine walk tickets are limited and encouraged to be purchased early. Only those 21 and older are allowed to partake in the wine walk.

Businesses, nonprofits and other organizations interested in participating in Hot August Night must apply prior to the event. All the applications associated with this event are available online at dddhammond.com.

Application types include merchant wine walk stop, merchant advertisement, vendor, car show, official sponsor and volunteer. Those wishing to participate or sponsor are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

“We are more excited than ever to host Hot August Night this year,” said DDD Executive Director Chelsea Tallo Little. “We can’t wait to see our community come together in the middle of our beloved downtown to celebrate the 25th anniversary. Don’t miss out this year.”
