Hammond man shoots wife, then himself

A husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself Friday in the Hammond area, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Department.

The apparent murder-suicide occurred at their residence in East Coles Creek Loop, said Chief Jimmy Travis.

Responding deputies found Heidi Davis, 34, lying outside the residence and suffering gunshot wounds. She was taken to a nearby medical facility where she succumbed to her injuries, Travis said.

At the scene, deputies learned that her husband, Anthony Davis, 38, had barricaded himself inside their residence.

After the authorities tried numerous time to make contact with him, the Special Response Team went in and found Anthony dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Travis said.

This incident is still under investigation, he said.
