Camellia expert finds rare bush on local property

John Grimm, nationally acknowledged Camellia expert and owner of Camellia Heaven, addressed the Gardenettes at their Nov. 11 meeting held at the Strawberry Board Building in Memorial Park, Ponchatoula.

He displayed the current issue of The Camellia Journal, which featured his locating a rare bush Bali H’ai on the property of the late Gardenette Flora McLendon Nelson in Ponchatoula.

The article showed a pictures of Nelson, her husband Jack, and another deceased member Liz Sanderson.

Grimm who has some 5,000 varieties of camellias on his property Camellia Heaven, brought many sample blossoms to demonstrate his power point presentation to the Gardenettes.

Ellen Pusey served as hostess for the meeting. She was assisted by Sonya Avery and Margaret Hardin. The meeting started with a prayer by chaplain Kathy Bruce. Secretary minutes were presented by Jamie LeBlanc followed by the treasurer’s report by Pusey. 

Gardenettes are members of District VI Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc.
