Hammond youth wins for artwork

Visual Arts student Khalil McKnight from Hammond High School has been selected as the winner of the art competition with the annual “Cook-off for the Coast” event taking place this week.

The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, where McKnight is also studying, made the announcement Friday.

An event coordinated by St. Bernard Parish and several partners, “The Cook-off for the Coast” celebrates the bounty of Southeast Louisiana and raises awareness about coastal restoration. This year it is virtual celebrating the food, music and art.

McKnight took part in the art competition coordinated and won first place/grand prize for artwork submitted. As part of the recognition, he was awarded $250.
