KATY, TEXAS -- The third-seeded Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team will play Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament at 7:30 p.m. at the Merrell Center.

SLU enters Thursday's game winners of 12 of their last 15 games leading to a bye in the first round of the tournament.

The Lions (16-15, 12-6 Southland) will face the winner of sixth-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (14-17, 9-9 Southland) and seventh-seed Central Arkansas (13-18, 8-10 Southland) Thursday.

SLU defeated A&M-Corpus Christi on the road Feb. 6, 64-58. Senior Marlain Veal scored 27 points and tied a career-high with seven three-pointers to lead the Lions past the Islanders.

Southeastern split the season series with UCA, with the Bears in a 73-71 win at the University Center on Jan. 5. Matthew Mondesir tipped in an offensive rebound with less than a second remaining. The Lions got revenge in Conway, Arkansas on Feb. 9 when SLU defeated the Bears 75-66. Veal led the Lions with 21 points while senior Moses Greenwood added 20.

SLU is led by first-team All-Southland selections Greenwood and Veal. Greenwood, a Sharon, Mississippi native, leads the team in scoring (17.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg). The senior also led the Southland in field goals made (211). Veal, a New Orleans, Louisiana product, leads the Lions in assists (137) and steals (58) and is second in scoring (15.8 ppg).

The Lions are 9-13 all-time in the Southland Conference Tournament. Southeastern last won the tournament 14 years ago, defeating Northwestern State, 49-42, at Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches under head coach Billy Kennedy.

Last season, the Lions just missed winning the title as they fell to Stephen F. Austin, 59-55 in the championship game.

Thursday's game can be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM 90.9, online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.
