Ponchatoula rolls over Mt. Carmel

The Ponchatoula Lady Green Wave stifled the Mt. Carmel Cubs, holding them to just nine points throughout the final three quarters on Thursday, January 11 to get the 63-19 win at home.

Ponchatoula's defense hit on all cylinders from the tip, allowing the Lady Green Wave to push out to a 13-0 lead in the first 3.5 minutes of the game before Mt. Carmel made a basket. Senior Jazmyn Womack led the Lady Green Wave to a big first quarter lead by scoring 13 points in the opening period of play to put Ponchatoula up 22-10 going into the second quarter.

Then Ponchatoula's defense clamped down and didn't allow a single point throughout the entire second quarter. The Lady Green Waves locking up the Cubs led to Ponchatoula going into halftime with a 36-10 lead.

Ponchatoula didn't let up in the second half with the starters holding Cubs scoreless until Mt. Carmel managed to make a free throw about three minutes into the second half which broke 11 consecutive game minutes without a point and a 21-0 run by Ponchatoula. Mt. Carmel managed to make another free throw, but the Lady Green Wave gained an insurmountable lead of 50-12 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Ponchatoula continued to grind down the Cubs with its superior length and athleticism until the final minutes when Mt. Carmel was able to string together a short run to score seven points in the last period.

Ponchatoula had nine players score in the contest, and Womack led all scorers with 28 points. Mallory Vining contributed 10 points in the win as well.
