Local students explore Community STEM Cafe

STEM FUN -- Members of the Hammond High Magnet School's Torbotics team and Tangi STEM Coalition provide science, math, engineering and technology activities for elementary students at the latest STEM Cafe. The event was held at the Ponchatoula Community Center.

Students in prekindergarten through high school recently explored science, math, engineering and technology during the third Community STEM Cafe. It was held at the Ponchatoula Community Center.

These volunteer-run events are free to the public because STEM professionals inspire students and families in science, technology, engineering and math.

Registration for these events is limited to create an intimate atmosphere promoting quality interactions between the general public and local STEM professionals, the organizers said.

Sponsors of these collaborative events include the Hammond Youth Education Alliance, Southeastern Louisiana University, the Tangipahoa Library, Tangipahoa Parish School System, and the Tangi STEM Coalition.

The next Community STEM Café will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon on April 14 at Southeastern. Register at www.hyeahammond.org, and email to tangistem@gmail.com to get more information.
