Uniforms registration available three days

COFFEE TIME -- Members of the Wong family welcome Morning Call to their new restaurant hall, Streetside Market, on West Thomas Street.

Registration for the St. Vincent de Paul Society's Uniform for Kids program will begin Thursday and continue through Saturday at the Holy Ghost Parish Hall on North Oak Street in Hammond.

Hours on Thursday and Friday are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The hours Saturday will be 8 a.m. to noon.

Parents/guardians must bring a picture ID and Medicaid and Social Security card for each child or a food stamp letter listing the children. Pre K to eighth graders for the 2019/20 school year are eligible.

The registration drive in Amite was held last week.

Uniforms will be delivered in mid July.

PARISH BIRTHDAY -- With Kentwood's celebration of Tangipahoa Parish's 150 birthday set for this weekend, the organizers have announced the schedule for Saturday's entertainment lineup: DeLynn Basso at 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Austin Stafford at 1 until 2:30 p.m., and Richard Ryan at 3-4:30 p.m.

They remind the public that the two-day celebration will begin Friday at the Kentwood Community Center, 302 Ave. F, with a proclamation ceremony honoring Kentwood founder Amos Kent, Tangipahoa Parish Training School first Director O.W. Dillon and Dr. Carlton Faller, who will be the grand marshal of the parade Saturday at 10 a.m. Historic photographs of north Tangipahoa Parish will be on display Friday evening. Light refreshments will be served. Admission will be free and open to the public.

On Saturday, after the parade, a barbecue ribs cook-off will be held on Main Street. There will be activities for children, craft vendors and food in addition to the musical entertainment.

TANZANIA -- The Oaks on 22 announces a Tangi to Tanzania fundraiser on Aug. 24 will raise money for the Enrich Tanzania program to provide clean water, recreation sports and education to Olasiti Arusah, Tanzania.

CLUB DELUXE CLOSURE -- West Club Deluxe Road will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Buzzetta Lane to Jackson and Yellow Water for drainage installation from 6 a.m. Monday through June 24.

Residences and businesses up to Buzzetta Lane can be accessed from Morrison Boulevard. Residences and businesses up to Jackson and Yellow Water can be accessed from SW Railroad Avenue.

The alternate route to bypass the area is Yellow Water Road to I-55 Service Road. Drainage work may be rescheduled or extended in the event of inclement weather.

Drivers and residents should exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas.

COFFEE TIME -- The Wong family, owners and operators of the Streetside Market on West Thomas Street, opened their doors Monday to the Hammond Historic District to provide a sneak preview of what their restaurant hall will look like. The new business is expected to feature a wide range of cuisine provided by several vendors in a food court type of setting. New Orleans coffee and beignet stand Morning Call is expected to be one of the vendors.
