Exotic flower blooms in Hammond

BIRD OF PARADISE -- The only flowering queen bird of paradise plant in Tangipahoa Parish resides in the garden of Joshua Catchings and Robert Devance, both of Hammond. "I don't know anyone in Tangipahoa Parish that has one blooming," Catchings said. "That's why we're so proud of it," Devance said. While many grow the plant in their gardens, it is more difficult to prompt it to bloom, Catchings said.



Old Guys welcome new accordionist

Accordionist Lance Caruso will play with Jake Drude and the Old Guys at Ponchatoula Community Center from 4-6 p.m. Saturday.
