GREENSBORO, Ga. - Oak Knoll Country Club golf pro Jake Narro had a couple of hiccups Saturday, but his goal is well within sight at the 41st PGA Professional National Championships.

Narro's third-round score of one-over-par 73 dropped him into a six-way tie for 27th at even par for the tournament heading into today's final round action. However, Narro is well within striking distance of a top 20 finish - and the slot in the PGA Championship at Oak Hills in Michigan in August that goes with it.

The final round of action will be broadcast on The Golf Channel at 5:30 p.m. on a tape-delay basis.

"That's the reason to be here," Narro said. "The good news is I'm right in the middle of it. What it boils down to is just one good round. We haven't played good enough to cruise in, but we haven't played bad enough not to have a chance."

There is a pack of 29 PGA club pros shooting between even par and five-under-par for the tournament, something Narro said could make for an interesting final round. Today's final 18 holes will have just as much to do with handling the pressure as shot-making ability.

"I know typically most guys back up a little bit," he said. "It gets to the point where it's not about your ability, it's how you handle your nerves. The only time I was nervous was when I hit my first tee shot Thursday. Other than that, I felt really good all week.

"I think that's the biggest key for me. It's just to feel normal like I'm back at home playing at Oak Knoll."

Narro's transition to Reynolds Plantation's Great Waters course has not been totally smooth, shooting a second-round two-over-par 74 Friday after opening the tournament Thursday with a first-round 69 on the Reynolds Landing course.

Narro bogeyed the 409-yard par-4 first, but followed up the bogey by parring the next three holes to stay at one-over-par for the round. He picked up birdies on the fifth and seventh holes to improve his score to one-under par for the round.

"It was tough (to get into a rhythm), especially early in the day when we played the first five holes in rain," he said. "Just keeping yourself dry was a challenge. Had a little bit of a shaky start ball-striking wise."

Narro parred the 223-yard par-3 eighth hole, which he double-bogeyed Friday, before coming up against his two-day-old nemesis - the 392-yard par-4 ninth. Narro said his approach shot to the green hit the front lip near the water hazard, but rolled into the water and causing him to take a double-bogey. He bogeyed No. 9 Friday.

"I hit what I thought was a good second shot," he said. "It's getting me. It's not really that demanding, honestly. Not that it's a long second shot, it's a precise second shot. If you're not in the fairway, it's hard to control how far the ball's going to go. It's kind of elevated, so you're kind of hitting down to the green. It throws a little bit of indecision in there.

"Yesterday, way over the green. Today, just short. Maybe tomorrow, I'll be right on it."

The double-bogey dropped Narro to one-over-par for the round, and he said he made a mistake and three-putted the 10th hole for a bogey. He regrouped and got back to one-over-par with a birdie on the 11th. He had chances to improve his score in the back nine, but could not make good on birdie attempts.

"I had a stretch on 12, 13, 14 and 15 where I had some really nice looks at birdies and missed them all," Narro said. "I missed a short par put on 16. Luckily I killed a drive on 18 and hit a 4-iron up on the green. That makes me feel a little better right now."
