In only their first year while operating on donations and a shoestring budget, the volunteers of the Tangipahoa Humane Society made impressive accomplishments. They placed 75 animals in homes or animal rescue centers and conducted 150 investigations of animal cruelty which have brought about 20 arrests, numerous citations and a few convictions with, hopefully, more to come.
They have also made strides in enlisting the help of youngsters in the community. Children seem to understand the responsibilities associated with owning animals better than some adults do.
President Randy Stegall and his wife Lynda praise all the volunteers and donors, but the Stegalls deserve a big round of applause, too.
The Tangipahoa Humane Society’s impressive first-year record proves this group deserves support.
