Humane Society says thank you with potluck
dinner tonight
Dear Editor:
We would like to personally thank our members and friends for their generous donations to the Tangipahoa Parish Humane Society. We have been blessed by the wonderful response from the Tangipahoa Parish residents and our members. It is because of their generosity that we have been able to help so many animals in our first year. Without their help, it would have been impossible.
In 2007, we were able to place 75 animals in loving forever homes, or specialty animal rescue centers. We conducted more than 150 animal cruelty investigations, which resulted in approximately 20 arrests and the issuance of numerous citations.
Several of these cases brought cruelty convictions, and two resulted in aggravated cruelty convictions.
We had several successful pet adoptions days, with the help of several dedicated volunteers.
Stew and Teri Gegenheimer coordinated educational presentations in two separate schools this year.
The second presentation was held for 180 first-grade students. Lynda and I participated in the second event and had a great time. We were surprised to see how much the children already knew about the importance of good pet care and owning a pet.
We were also able to help needy families by giving them used dog houses and pet food for their family pets.
All of this has been made possible for us to do thanks to all who have donated many pet items, finances and time to help the Tangipahoa Parish Humane Society.
We pray that in 2008 we will be able to do even greater things.
We will be having a pot luck dinner tonight at the American Legion hall on Pine Street in Ponchatoula. All members and friends are invited. Please bring your favorite dish there will be plenty for everyone. We hope to see you there.
All of our members, along with Lynda and I, hope to put an end to the abuse and neglect of our animal friends here in Tangipahoa Parish.
Thank you all, and God bless,
— Randy and Lynda Stegall, Ponchatoula
