The new Tangipahoa chapter of the Humane Society of Louisiana asked for money, and it is coming in.
Donors have given more than $1,200, President Randy Stegall said earlier this week.
“We're getting donations from as far away as Mandeville,” said his wife, Lynda, who is the chapter treasurer.. “Everybody is telling us, ‘God bless. This is needed so badly.'”
An anonymous donor took care of the entire veterinary bill for a dog recently pictured in this newspaper, she said. It was starving and had mange and ear mites. However, it is still too underweight to be adopted.
The group also has sounded a call for donations of fence wire and two-by-four lumber to go around the bottom of the fence wire.
Used fence wire and old two-by-fours will be fine, Stegall said.
It would help if someone would provide a place that could be used as a central location for receiving such donations, he said.
The chapter is working on establishing a web site that will include photos of animals available for helping and adopting.
