Two groups planting trees in wetlands

RECYCLING -- Discarded Christmas trees are being collected at the Hammond maintenance facility next to the Piggly Wiggly supermarket on US 190 East. The public is invited to drop off trees here or at collection places at Southeastern and at Middendorf's restaurant in Manchac. Trees must be free of ornaments and decorations. Flocked trees and artificial trees are not accepted.

NEW ORLEANS -- At least two groups are planting trees in Louisiana's wetlands to restore swamps and help slow coastal erosion.
The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana has nine events scheduled from Friday in Mereaux, in St. Bernard Parish, to Feb. 15 in Manchac.
